PREPARATION OF DETAILED PROJECT REPORT FOR DEVELOPMENT OF MARINA AND REVIVAL OF ALAPUZHA PORT, KERALA

Client : Directorate of Ports, Government of Kerala

Government of Kerala wishes to revive the existing Alapuzha Port and develop a marina and associated facilities. L&T-RAMBØLL was awarded this project. The main objective of the Consultancy assignment is to prepare a Detailed Project Report for Development of Marina and Revival of Alappuzha Port, and if the project is found technically and commercially viable, then prepare the Project Structuring Model, BOT bid documents and assist the Client in the selection of a BOT port developer / investor / operator to implement the project on a commercial format. 

The project is divided into two phases.

OWNERS ENGINEER - KARAIKAL PORT PRIVATE LIMITED

Client : Karaikal Port Private Limited (Subsidiary of MARG Constructions Limited)

L&T-RAMBØLL was awarded the job by MARG Constructions Limited, Chennai in June 2004 to prepare a Detailed Project Report for the development of a Port in Karaikal (UT of Pondicherry). This assignment was carried out accomplishing the following :

  • Preparation of Detailed Project Report

  • Environmental Impact Assessment Studies and obtaining MoEF approval for the project

This Report was submitted to the Government of Pondicherry and approval for the project was obtained. MARG Constructions Limited has entered into an agreement with the Government of Pondicherry to develop the Port on a BOT basis. MARG has incorporated a Special Purpose Company (SPC), Karaikal Port Private Limited (KPPL) for the purpose of implementing and operating the port project.

KPPL has now appointed L&T-RAMBØLL (LTR) as its Owners Engineer. In this capacity, LTR is assisting KPPL in achieving the objective of Development of Phase I of Karaikal Port as enumerated in the DPR. To achieve this, the project is split into four modules involving Planning and Concept Designs; Tender document preparation; Detailed Engineering / Proof Checking and Progress review during implementation.

PREPARATION OF DPR AND DRAFT TENDER (GLOBAL) DOCUMENT FOR SETHUSAMUDRAM SHIP CHANNEL PROJECT, TAMIL NADU

Client : Ministry of Shipping (represented by Tuticorin Port Trust), Government of India

L&T-RAMBØLL was awarded the job by Tuticorin Port Trust on behalf of Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, in June 2004, to prepare the DPR and Tender documents for the Sethusamudram Ship Channel (SSC) project. The SSC is a channel of national importance both economically and strategically and has been on the drawing boards since the nineteenth century and at the centre of national debate in recent times. The channel is 167 km long, and involves nearly 80 million cu.m of dredging. The project involved submission of Detailed Traffic Forecast Report bringing out realistic coastal and overseas traffic in terms of vessel transits through the channel.

L&T-RAMBØLL further carried out the assignment accomplishing:
  • Recommending Field Investigations and Model Studies

  • Concept and Detailed Design of Channel Dimensions

  • Overall Dredging Requirements 

  • Evaluation of Ancillary Facilities and VTMS 

  • Review EIA Reports 

  • Preparation of EMP 

  • Cost Estimates, Financial and Economic Analysis, Project Structuring and Implementation Schedule

  • Final DPR Preparation on the basis of results of Geotechnical Investigations and the Model Studies carried out by TPT

  • Presentation to Ministry of Shipping.
